Lens Reversal Macro Photography

Received a Lens Reversal Filter Adapter from Deal Extreme the yesterday.  One side is a lens mount that attaches to your camera body, the other side is threaded to match the thread on the front of your lenses.  The idea here is that you mount your lens backwards onto your camera which turns it into a macro lens.  If you read some of the user comments on the Deal Extreme website you will be warned that the threading and camera mount are dubious.  I'd agree with those comments.  I was a little worried that the adapter wouldn't un-mount from my camera after I put it on.  It did after some gentle coaxing.  I had a difficult time getting my Rebel kit lens to thread onto the adapter, and I'm not sure I ever got a solid connection.  It's probably a good thing that the kit lens is mostly plastic.  Anything heavier would have probably just fallen off.

I took a few quick pictures, all hand held and hurried.  And I didn't take the time to fake out a decent f-stop on the lens (which can only be done through trickery since there is no electrical connection to the lens).  The results look promising.  Tripod mounted, stopped down, with plenty of light, I think you could get some pretty nice shots.  And for less than $7 it's well worth the price to play around with.

Tilt-Shift

I took a couple quick snaps with my Nexus outside the office and tried turning them into faux tilt-shift photos using photoshop.  As always, more practice required.

Time-Lapse with kitchen timer.

Inspired by http://philipbloom.net/2010/06/30/eggtimer/ I setup my own kitchen timer rig and mounted my Nexus One on top of it. I even wrote a quick python script to do control the taking of the pictures. My only attempt so far is this "video" of me mowing the lawn. Oh the drama!

Back In Form

Well what do you know, it's been a couple of months since I posted an update.  As the title says, I'm back in fine form.  What's gone on over the last couple months, hmmm.

Movies:  I remember seeing Prince of Persia.  An okay movie, fine enough fluffy fair.  Seems like I've avoided every other movie due to atrocious reviews.

Had my kayak out on the Glenmore Reservoir a few times and got some nice pics.  Blue herons, Bald Eagle, S.S. Moyie.   But I really need to add a rig to hold the camera for me.  Especially if I want to start shooting some video.  Hand held video is way too shakey.
